Contraindications, special cases and exceptions

Please read the list of contraindications before your appointment. Even if there are absolute contraindications, the “correction” can be performed, but you should consult a Body Balance Clinic doctor to find an individual solution depending on the circumstances.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions

Absolute contraindications

Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Psychopathy combined with the patient’s lack of restraint, as well as other severe mental disorders.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
A stroke or heart attack suffered less than 3 months ago.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Arnold-Chiari malformation / syndrome of types 1-4, characterized by the descent of the posterior parts and tonsils of the cerebellum and of the medulla oblongata through the foramen magnum into the spinal canal.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Epicondylar exostosis (a benign formation of new bone tissue on the surface of the epicondyles) or bone deformity of the occipital condyles.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Severe acute inflammatory diseases, especially of autoimmune origin, an extremely weakened immune system at the time of the correction, or undermined health with extremely limited resources at the regeneration stage (cancer, AIDS, pronounced osteoporosis, bone metastases, severe loss of bone density, severe infectious diseases).
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Intensive degenerative changes in the cervical spine, especially in the head joints (fusion and arthrosis of adjacent vertebral bodies, osteophytosis, calcification and ossified bridge-like formations between the vertebrae that restrict or completely block the function of the joints).
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Retinal detachment, recent cataract surgery.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Shunt-dependent hydrocephalus.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Cerebral aneurysm.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Severe arteriosclerosis.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions

Relative contraindications

Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Congenital musculoskeletal deformities and degenerative changes of the skull condyles and of the articular surfaces of the first cervical vertebra, the Atlas C1.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Deformity and asymmetric development of the first vertebra, the Atlas C1, with complete absence of the posterior arch or the transverse processes.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Fractures of the cervical vertebrae with improper healing, fracture of the dens of the second vertebra, the axis C2.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
A stroke or heart attack suffered less than 9 months ago.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Implanted pacemakers.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Taking potent psychostimulants at the time of the correction, or taking drugs that prevent blood clotting.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Pronounced psychopathologies may make it impossible to carry out the correction due to the patient’s lack of restraint.
Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
During pregnancy, correction of the joints AO-AA (atlanto-occipital joint C0-C1 and atlanto-occipital C1-C2) should only be performed if the expectant mother suffers from severe pain caused by head joints dysfunction and therefore has to take medication regularly.

Factors that complicate treatment

To restore the correct function of the head joints, as a rule, 2 treatment sessions with an interval of 1-2 months are required. But in some cases, treatment may be more difficult. To achieve full results, some categories of patients may need more treatment sessions to restore the muscles of the back of the head, back and neck from trigger zones and areas of fibrosis:

Extreme overstrain of the neck

Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
The person’s neck / back muscles are excessively developed as a result of extreme sports, or as a result of past injuries or prolonged stress. The muscles are so tense and even “swollen” that they feel more like “reinforced concrete”. In this case, treatment will be extended by one more correction session. First, the fibrotic areas in the neck muscles and in the paravertebral muscles of the spine are eliminated. Only after that is the correct function of the head joints restored.
Treatment of muscles for fibrosis and spasms is performed using the proprietary technologies of the Body Balance Clinic organization and in a short time creates neuromuscular relaxation of such high intensity that a person cannot experience it anywhere else. No other methods known to us are able, even at a stretch, to produce a similar effect. Only after the patient’s muscles are sufficiently relaxed, filled with blood and cured of fibrosis will the specialist be able to resolve the patient’s craniovertebral dysfunction problem.

Lean muscles and tight ligaments

Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Bonesetting, harsh manual therapy, whiplash injuries, diver’s injury, as well as other situations causing sudden overloads in the cervical segments, whether caused accidentally or intentionally, especially in those who like to crack their own neck, can lead to a deep protective strengthening of the muscles and ligaments. As a result of prolonged strengthening of the tissues, the cervical joints lose flexibility and elasticity down to minimal values, and the neck becomes tight and stiff.
To normalize such complications, the treatment process may be extended by 1-2 additional correction sessions.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction

Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Since the condition of the jaw joints, albeit to a small extent, affects the symptoms and the balance of the spine, pronounced TMJ dysfunction may prevent the patient from recovering completely. After the correction, the symptoms of osteochondrosis may weaken significantly, but not go away completely.
Such patients are recommended to undergo orthodontic treatment immediately after the correction to restore the function of the jaw joints. This will make it possible to restore biomechanical balance completely. If you are not sure whether you need long-term orthodontic treatment, you can use the “Balancer” diagnostic device developed at Body Balance Clinic to quickly check how much jaw dysfunction affects your health.

Excess fatty tissue

Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
Excess fatty tissue makes it difficult to access the deep neck muscles, which in some people may lie at a depth of up to several centimeters. This makes treatment more difficult, since the result of defibrosing the muscles at the first and second cervical vertebrae, C1 Atlas and C2 Axis, depends on the precision of the work. An additional “correction” session may be required for successful treatment.

Severe depression

Contraindications, special cases and exceptions
In cases of severe depression combined with long-term use of psychotropic drugs, or in the case of an extremely negative state of mind, treatment may take much longer than usual. After treatment, the body needs special conditions and time to restore the center of gravity of the spine and to eliminate postural distortions. And this requires rest, both physiological and psychological.
In people suffering from depression, the autonomic nervous system is in constant tension. This can be an obstacle, since psychological tension may prevent the muscles from relaxing fully, so unpleasant symptoms may persist much longer than usual before improvement occurs. Instead of the standard 2 correction sessions, 3 or even 4 sessions may be needed for full recovery.
If, however, the depression arises from constant physical pain (for example, with a whiplash injury or frequent migraine attacks), treatment at Body Balance Clinic can bring great benefit on both the mental and the physical level.

Surgical cases and fractures

Intervertebral disc replacement surgery, discectomy, arthrodesis or laminectomy are not a contraindication to treatment. But by the time of the “correction”, the operated area must be completely healed.
In addition to the “correction”, treating the operated area for fibrosis can be of great benefit. This increases microcirculation and promotes the resorption of indurations, making scars softer. Treatment for fibrosis also increases the mobility of the spinal segments near the surgical site.
In cases of cracks / fractures of the cervical vertebrae, if they have completely healed, treatment at Body Balance Clinic is possible. The attending doctor will perform a computed tomography scan and, after the necessary examinations, will carry out the treatment with the necessary precautions.
