Home Main principles The right psychological attitude

Does psychological attitude affect recovery?

Have you ever wondered why similar people who have the same disease and who undergo the same treatment have such a different course of the disease itself and such a different speed of recovery?
The thing is that when treating any disease, it is necessary to take into account not only the physiological component but also the psychological one. After all, a person is not only a body but also a mind, feelings and emotions.
And, as extensive medical practice around the world shows, the right psychological attitude can have a decisive influence on the recovery of the body.
You have probably met people who were afraid of getting sick and invariably did get sick. And once ill, they sank even deeper into despondency, declaring that nothing could help them anymore. And indeed, their illness was difficult and long. And in contrast to them, you have surely met people who, despite the severe illnesses that had struck them, against all the laws of medicine, recovered very easily and quickly got back on their feet.
Maybe you even recognized yourself in these examples?
So what explains the difference between the former and the latter? Is it only the psychological attitude?
Yes. Or rather, its direct influence on the biochemical processes taking place inside your body.

How mental attitude changes the biochemistry of the human body

Depending on which psychological state you put your attention into, the production of certain hormones is activated in you. Hormones, in turn, trigger a cascade of reactions that cause physical changes in the body.
Doctors conventionally divide hormones into 2 directions: anabolism and catabolism.
Anabolism is energy, rejuvenation, high metabolism, growth and flourishing of the whole body; it is the active storing of resources and the support of even the peripheral systems of the human body that are not involved in vital processes.
Catabolism, on the other hand, is a fight for the survival of only the vital nodes and systems of the body, at the expense of the entire periphery on which a person’s physical survival does not depend. It is the active spending of resources previously accumulated by the body, processes of destroying infections and defective cells, a stress mode of the body’s functioning.
A prolonged hormonal imbalance with a predominance of catabolism can have a destructive effect on the whole body, (!) especially during illness (!), when the body is already weakened.
Stress, despondency, apathy, melancholy, the blues, dejection, depression, expecting something bad, fear – these are psychological states that activate the production of a whole cocktail of catabolic hormones (cortisol, glucagon and adrenaline, and others).
Catabolic hormones are responsible for more than 400 destructive reactions in the human body. The main ones: they impair capillary blood supply, suppress microcirculation, cause spasmodic muscle tension, disrupt the removal of metabolites and waste gases, increase the level of inflammation, and have an immunosuppressive and neurodegenerative effect.
Anabolic hormones, on the contrary, are responsible for more than 250 positive reactions in the human body. The main ones: they improve capillary blood supply and microcirculation, relax all layers of muscles, improve detoxification processes, reduce inflammation, and have a significant immune-supporting and neuro-regenerative effect.
It would seem that a simple difference in the psychological attitude of two patients with the same disease can send one of them to the grave and put the other back on their feet in the shortest possible time.
To control your body consciously, it is important to be able to master your attention.
And this is solely your area of responsibility, dear reader.

How can this be used in practice?

Unfortunately, although psychology is taught in medical schools, classical medicine very rarely deals with correcting the patient’s psychological state, dealing only with the physiological aspect of treatment. But every doctor, from his own experience, can always see in a patient who will recover easily and quickly, and who slowly and with complications.
So what does your psychological state depend on?
Only on which thoughts and images you allow to develop and which you chase out of your head. One could say that your health depends on your attitude to life in general and on your established habit of reacting in one way or another to the events that happen to you.
A thought, flying into your head, gives birth to an image; the unfolding images spin you up into emotions, which in turn regulate your hormonal state. And since thoughts are something you are able to control, even though no one has told you so, it means that your hormonal state is also fully under your control. Provided, of course, that you have enough willpower for self-control. But in any case, your doctor will not tell you about this.
Remember one simple truth: if you learn to talk to yourself in your head in the language of solutions (an optimistic approach and looking for a way out of the situation), which is more typical of strong personalities, rather than in the language of problems (a pessimistic approach, complaining about fate and circumstances), which is more typical of weak personalities, then luck and a positive outcome will favor you in many things. Including your health.

Placebo and nocebo. The power of attention and the mechanism of belief

Psychological attitude is a very important tool that is always at hand. With it, you can consciously trigger the processes you need in your body by managing your hormonal background.
Have you or people you know ever had situations when, before a very important task that could not be failed, you knew for sure that you would not get sick, even if an epidemic was raging all around? This happened because you decided that you could not afford to be ill. That is, the remote control for you is in your head.
The described phenomenon can easily be observed in mothers of families: everyone can be sick except her. She simply cannot afford to get sick, otherwise who will take care of her loved ones?
Doctors in hospitals are constantly in contact with many infectious patients, but they themselves get sick extremely rarely, because they are so used to their work that they do not panic about it.
This effect is clearly visible in various clinical trials. When a drug is tested on people, there is always a group of people receiving a dummy pill – this is a requirement of clinical protocols, for the purity of the study. And, most interestingly, in this group there are always 30% of people with results like those in the group receiving the real medicinal substance.
In medical practice, this is called a double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial.
That is, if, for example, a drug that lowers blood pressure is being tested, then in 30% of those receiving the dummy pill, blood pressure also decreases. If a drug against peptic ulcer disease is being tested, then in 30% of those who received the dummy pill, the ulcer actually heals. In medicine, this phenomenon is called placebo and thanks to it doctors sometimes see incredible cases of recovery in absolutely hopeless patients.
But there is also the opposite effect – nocebo. This is when a person receiving a dummy pill feels the side effects of a drug and really feels sick, vomits, gets dizziness and headaches, etc., although instead of a real pill he has swallowed a harmless dummy.
What is the conclusion from all this?
If you are sure that something is beneficial, then you will most likely get that benefit. And if you are sure that it will harm you, then there is a high probability that it will.
Interestingly, the nocebo effect (negative thought images) quantitatively prevails and amounts to 50%. At the same time, the placebo effect (positive thought images) is less pronounced and amounts to only 30%. Negative thoughts affect a person more strongly than positive ones.
That is, when you believe in your recovery and are in a positive psycho-emotional state, there is a 30% probability that it will happen, even if you do not receive any treatment at all.
And at the same time, if you believe that your condition is hopeless, then with a 50% probability that is how it will be, even with very good treatment. Catabolism will negate all medical support.
Remember how the hero of Jerome Klapka Jerome’s book “Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)”, while reading a medical encyclopedia, found that he had every disease except childbed fever. This is the nocebo effect.
Every year there are many cases when a person, having gone through some grief, cannot cope with it psychologically and dies within a matter of weeks, despite having initially been in good health. A negative attitude can sabotage the body’s functions to an extreme degree, up to the critical point that leads the body to death.

Is it enough just to think positively?

Positive thinking definitely has a beneficial effect on your body. But just thinking about good things or about your recovery is not enough. You have to believe in it. After all, belief squares all your aspirations. No matter whether they are positive or negative.
And belief is strengthened by actions on the way to the goal. In this way, you will switch into a favorable psychological state and, without even noticing it, trigger a cascade of the anabolic biochemical reactions you need, which, together with the treatment you have received, will help you become healthy.

How will the right mental attitude help with Atlas correction at Body Balance Clinic?

Just as with any other treatment, the right psychological (mental) attitude is important during correction.
Yes, we will be able to help you with correction, as we have been doing for many years. But you must understand that after the first correction the self-regulation phase will begin immediately. And any doctor will tell you that rest is needed after any treatment. That is why it is extremely important with what attitude you go through this phase and what hormonal and biochemical reactions you trigger in your body with your thoughts and emotions.
The point is as follows: since correction causes a global release of neuromuscular tension in the whole body at once (tension that had disturbed the patient’s center of gravity), in the first month your physical and psychological rest is extremely important in order to create conditions for the gradual adaptation of the neck muscles and the musculoskeletal system to the new parameters. This process is inert and takes from one to two months.
If, after undergoing correction and receiving a high-intensity neuromuscular release, you plunge back into your problems and experience prolonged stress, then there is a high probability that a reflex protective blockage will arise in your neuromuscular system, and the musculoskeletal system will simply not have time to adapt to the new center of gravity, which will stop the changes for the better and may even cause a relapse of pain. As a result, you yourself will prevent your body from readjusting.

Patients who want to fight and suffer in order to attract other people’s attention

If you belong to the category of people who are not set on recovery, but are set on proving to themselves and everyone else that correction using the Body Balance Clinic method is just another method that does not work. Then there is a high probability that for you personally, that is exactly how it will be.
True, there is one “but”. Correction is so effective that, even with a negative attitude on the part of the patient, improvements can still occur with a very high probability.
In this case, if people in this category do experience improvements, then because of the focus of their attention they may flatly fail to see them, and later reluctantly admit that they are there. This phenomenon is always based on one and the same thing – a selfish desire to prove to oneself and others that one is right at any cost, even to the detriment of oneself and other people.
Improvements are usually discovered after the doctor questions the patient at a follow-up appointment, using the patient’s own questionnaire, which he filled in at the first appointment.
In 75% of cases, thanks to detailed questioning, it turns out that the patients have indeed had positive changes, which they did not take into account because of their negative self-attitude and their established habit of speaking the language of problems rather than solutions.
For all skeptics, we note that if you do not get the results you hoped for, this does not mean that hundreds of positive video reviews about our organization were somehow fabricated, or that correction is ineffective.

How can you tell that your thoughts are negative?

People with a negative mental attitude, as a rule, are often in a bad mood. They are irritated, sad, anxious, and feel resentment, shame, guilt or fear.
The thoughts of such people constantly revolve around illness, even if there is no illness at all. They live in the expectation that something bad is about to happen.
With a negative attitude, people are deeply convinced that no one and nothing will help them. They feel sorry for themselves and try to get pity and attention from those around them. Many of them are convinced that everyone must help them because their condition is very serious. But at the same time they themselves do nothing for their own healing, and only change doctors and demand help.
Also, these people get badly stuck on their body and their sensations. Sensations that should be used as an indicator for action they use as a funnel into which they pour all their attention and energy, which contribute to the development of the disease, while remaining inactive.
This is another characteristic of weak people prone to hypochondria. They listen to their body too closely and focus too much attention on the painful part of the body. It is well known that everything you focus your attention on becomes important, and your energy and strength rush there. While everything you ignore tends to disappear.
Paradoxical as it may seem, if you constantly focus on pain, you will only increase its intensity. Start acting. Switch your attention from the problem to its solution.

Still don’t believe in the power of attention?

Autogenic training is an excellent tool that will allow every person to realize in practice what their attention is capable of.
Autogenic training is a method of self-suggestion proposed by the German psychotherapist Johannes Schultz. The patient is in a relaxed state and, by concentrating his attention, induces alternating sensations of heaviness and lightness, warmth and cold in the body and limbs. As a result, a deep meditative state is achieved.
Try the experiment yourself: lie down on the bed, relax, place your arms along your body. Now start thinking about your right arm. For a few minutes, imagine how it fills with heaviness, then how it becomes warm. After a while you will physically feel heaviness and a rise in temperature in this arm, although in reality it is physically in the same conditions as the left one. At the same time, you will feel your left arm as weightless. This phenomenon shows how, with the power of their attention, a person exerts a real physical effect on their body, which is recorded by modern measuring instruments.
These scientific experiments record a real physical change in the weight and temperature of the test subjects’ bodies during autogenic training.

What conclusion can you draw?

With the power of your attention you give images real weight. Do you want to be healthy and happy? One of the keys is in your head!
And we confidently declare to you: the Body Balance Clinic treatment methods, in tandem with your positive and determined attitude towards recovery, will definitely lead you to success or, at the very least, to a significant and lasting improvement of your current condition. This is proven by our many years of experience, our observations and our patients’ reviews.
